Front of House Duty Manager

The Tabard Theatre is seeking a Front of House Duty Manager to cover evening and weekend shifts.

The Duty Manager is responsible for the preparation of the theatre to welcome audiences, for managing audiences, ticket sales, programmes and refreshments, undertaking administrative tasks, and safely and securely closing the theatre after each show.

This is a hands-on autonomous role covering everything from hoovering the carpets and putting up posters to processing bookings and selling ice cream, with plenty in between.

Skills and experience we are looking for:

  • Customer service – friendly and polite manner when dealing with the public
  • Organised and efficient – able to move seamlessly between the many facets of the role, and adhere to strict timings for show starts and intervals
  • High standard of spoken and written English – able to communicate professionally and clearly with audiences, theatre staff, production teams and theatre companies
  • IT literate – able to use computers, tablets, other smart devices
  • Passion for theatre
  • Previous box office/front of house experience is a bonus but not essential – training will be provided

Terms: Offered on a freelance self employed basis, £14 per hour.

Shifts to be covered:

  • Weekly: Evenings each night (from 6pm until end of show – end times vary between 8.30pm and 10pm), and Saturdays (daytime when there is a matinee and evening shows, typical Saturday shift is 12.30pm until end of evening show c.8pm but end times vary)
  • Potential additional shifts on an ad hoc basis
